Looking for an opportunity to improvise on stage? Join us for Stage Time!
Hosted by Abbie Brasch
This is a low-stakes, monthly performance opportunity for improvisers of all experience levels. Whether you are looking to get more reps in to prepare for an audition or just wanting to have fun doing improv in a supportive environment, this event is for you!
Stage Time is an open mic for both long form and short form improv. You can either:
A) Bring your improv group and sign up for a 10-minute slot, or
B) Come as a single performer, and we will place you on a mashup team to perform a 10-minute set in the montage format.
Performer sign ups are on a first come, first served basis. When you register, you’ll be asked to share whether you’ll be bringing a preexisting group or will want to join a mashup group.
The more the merrier – friends and family are welcome to come watch! You can assure them this is not the kind of improv show where they’ll be pulled up onto the stage :)
Click the pink button below to sign up either as a performer or audience member — you’ll be asked whether you’re performing or spectating at checkout.
Logistics:
Performer sign-ups start at 7pm. Show starts at 7:30pm.
Venue Notes: Stage Time will take place in The Auditorium at UHeights Center.
The Auditorium is located on the top floor of UHeights Center. When you enter the building, take any of the big, grand staircases or the elevator all the way up and follow the signs to the Auditorium.
An accessible elevator is located just inside the southwest entrance (the door to the left of the playground). Hit floor 3 if you’re taking the elevator. Turn left when you exit the elevator, and go all the way down to the end of the hall. The Auditorium will be on your right.
This is a pay-what-you-wish event with registration starting at $5. We are entirely volunteer-run, so any contribution can help make this a sustainable endeavor.
Refund Policy: Refunds are available up to 3 days before the event. We limit the size of our events to ensure that everyone has a high-quality experience and gets plenty of time to practice the skills they’re here to build. Therefore, when people cancel at the last minute, it makes a significant impact on our small organization’s ability to cover our costs and on the experience of other people who have signed up. Thank you for understanding!
Community Agreements
We want these events to be inclusive and welcoming spaces. Therefore, when you sign up for these events either as an audience member or performer, you agree to respect the following community agreements, designed to make sure everyone has a good time:
Take care of yourself. You never have to do a scene or exercise that makes you uncomfortable. Stepping out is always okay; no explanation needed!
Be a good steward of the space by cleaning up afterwards. UHeights (our venue) is an amazing community organization serving a wide range of needs. We support them by taking care of the building. This event is entirely run by volunteers, so if you're able to help stack your chair at the end of the night, that's a huge help to us!
Punch up, never down. Keep your humor aimed at ideas, power, and absurdity – not at people or communities who are already marginalized. If a joke relies on a stereotype, it's probably not the move.
Respect identity (both yours and others'). Don't assign offensive or demeaning identities to your scene partners. No playing a character's race, sexuality, disability, or religion for shock value or laughs.
Mess up? Own it and move on. We're all learning! If you make a mistake on stage or off, a sincere acknowledgment goes a long way. We prioritize repair over shame. Be willing to hear the impact of your actions on the person affected, regardless of your intentions.
No slurs. No exceptions. Racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise derogatory language has no place here, in scenes or in conversation. This is a hard line: if you use derogatory language, you will be asked to leave immediately.
